Mae Tho National Park
Mae Tho National Park occupies an area of 990 square metres in Amphoe Hot and Amphoe Mae Chaem, Chiang Mai Province. The major parts of the landscape are complex mountain ranges, among which Doi King Rai Mong is the tallest with its height of 1,715 metres above sea level. The terrains of the ranges are comprised of evergreen forests, such as dry evergreen forest, hill evergreen forest, coniferous forest, mixed deciduous forest and deciduous dipterocarp forest. The National Park provides water supply to Mae Chaem River and Mae Lid River. It is also home to some rare animals like serows, muntjacs, Tibetan black bears, boars and many kinds of birds.
From the city of Chiang Mai, drive along Highway 102 (Chiang Mai - Hot Road) for 89 km. Once arrived in Amphoe Hot, drive along Highway 108 (Hot - Mae Sariang Road) passing Ob Luang National Park Office for 54 km to get to Ban Kong Loi. Turn right into Highway 1270 (Ban Kong Loi - Ban Mae Tho Road) for 16 km. Take the turn and drive for 500 m to reach the entrance of Mae Tho National Park Office.
The scenery in the area of Mae Tho National Park Office is very beautiful. Looking downwards to the valley below, rice terraces owned by the Karen tribe curve like streams of rivers. The rice field are fresh and green, particularly in the rainy season. When the weather is clear, the top of Doi Intanont can be seen. The temperature at Mae Tho National Park is cold throughout the year and there is usually thick fog in the morning. Visitors are recommended to stop by Namtok Mae Aep to get a touch of the pleasant atmosphere around the beautiful waterfall.
Moreover, tourists who are keen on exciting activities can try inflatable rafting adventure along the Salak Hin Stream. The rafting difficulty on the nine kilometres route is rated around grade 3-4. A trip takes about two hours. The period suitable for rafting is during October and March.

How to get there :
Drive along the Hot-Mae Sariang road and en route to Mae Tho for 16 kilometres at Km. 55, drive onto asphalt and unpaved roads which are steep and curved. Only vehicles in good condition are recommended.
